The Eternal Gilded Majesty

Dominating the skyline of Thiruvananthapuram, the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is famous globally as the world\'s wealthiest place of worship. The temple is managed by the Royal Family of Travancore, who remain the 'Padmanabha Dasas' (Servants of the Lord).

The presiding deity is Lord Vishnu, reclining on the serpent Anantha in the 'Anantha Shayana' posture. The 18-foot long idol is visible through three doors of the sanctum, representing the beginning, middle, and end.

History & The Mystery of Vault B

The temple is mentioned in the ancient Puranas and the Sangam literature. Its massive wealth, stored in underground vaults (Kallaras), made headlines worldwide in 2011. While five vaults were opened, Vault B remains sealed behind a door carved with cobras, believed to be protected by a divine spell (Naga Bandham).

Architecture & Spiritual Path

A rare fusion of Kerala and Dravidian architecture, the temple features a seven-tier gopuram (tower) and a corridor of 365 carved stone pillars. The temple tank, Padma Theertham, reflects the golden gopuram, offering a sight of unparalleled serenity at dusk.
