Kadampuzha Devi Temple is a unique shrine where the deity is worshipped in a hole (Pookkulachal) rather than a traditional idol. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga in her fierce yet benevolent form, as she appeared before Arjuna during his penance for the Pasupatha Astra.
The temple is world-renowned for the 'Muttarukkal' ritual, where coconuts are broken to remove obstacles in various aspects of life, from health to prosperity.
According to legend, the great philosopher-saint Adi Shankaracharya discovered the divine presence of the Goddess here. Finding no idol but a powerful vibration from a hole in the ground, he consecrated the spot, making it one of the most sacred 'Swayambhu' (self-manifested) shrines in Kerala.
Unlike other temples, there is no 'Utsavam' (annual festival) or 'Seeveli' (procession) here. The daily 'Pookkulachal' (showering of flowers into the sacred hole) is the primary offering. The simple yet profound atmosphere of the temple draws thousands of devotees who seek immediate solutions to their life's challenges.
