Who is Goddess Saraswati?
Goddess Saraswati is the deity of knowledge, learning, wisdom, music, arts, speech and creativity. She is Vani — the goddess of language itself — and Sharada, the one who dwells in autumn. Every student, musician, artist, writer, and scholar seeks her blessing. She is the power that transforms raw intelligence into wisdom and raw sound into music.

The Sacred Story
Saraswati is one of the oldest goddesses in Hinduism — appearing in the Rigveda as a river goddess and goddess of speech (Vak). The Saraswati River — once flowing through the Gangetic plain — is considered her physical manifestation. Over time she became the consort of Brahma — together representing the creative principle: Brahma the creator, Saraswati the intelligence that guides all creation.
Iconography & Symbolism
Saraswati is clothed in pure white (representing purity of knowledge), seated on a white lotus or a white swan. She holds a Veena (lute) in two hands — playing the music of the cosmos. Her other hands hold the Vedas and a rosary (mala). The swan is her vahana — representing viveka (discernment), the ability to separate milk from water, truth from untruth.
