Who is Lord Hanuman?
Lord Hanuman is the greatest devotee in all of Hindu mythology — a being of immense strength, wisdom, and unflinching loyalty. Son of Vayu (the wind god) and born to Anjana, he is Bajrangbali, whose body is as hard as a thunderbolt. His entire existence is a testament to what bhakti (devotion) can achieve.

The Sacred Story
As a child Hanuman leapt towards the sun thinking it a ripe fruit — Indra struck him with his thunderbolt (Vajra), wounding his jaw (Hanu), giving him his name. The gods bestowed boons: immortality, invulnerability, the strength of ten million elephants. He became Sugriva's servant and met Lord Rama, entering the most celebrated devotional friendship in Hindu scripture. He leapt across the ocean to Lanka, found Sita imprisoned, burned Lanka with his tail, and carried the Sanjeevani mountain to save Lakshmana. He is one of the seven Chiranjivi — the immortals — said to still walk the earth wherever Rama's name is spoken.
Iconography & Symbolism
Hanuman is depicted as a powerful monkey-man with a devotional bearing — hands folded in Namaste, or carrying the Sanjeevani mountain, or tearing open his chest to reveal Rama and Sita in his heart. He carries a Gada (mace). In his Panchamukha (five-faced) form he bears the faces of Hanuman, Narasimha, Garuda, Varaha, and Hayagriva. Sindoor (vermilion) is his sacred offering — he smeared his entire body with it out of devotion to Rama.
